You don’t need design school or expensive software to create a digital product people will pay for. Canva — even the free version — is enough to produce ebooks, planners, templates and lead magnets that look genuinely professional. Here’s the process from idea to sellable file.
Step 1: Choose a format that already sells
- Ebooks & guides — the classic; great for expertise-based niches.
- Planners & trackers — evergreen sellers (fitness, budgeting, content planning).
- Social media template packs — you design in Canva, customers edit in Canva. Zero friction.
- Checklists & worksheets — quick to make, perfect as lead magnets or order bumps.
Step 2: Start from a template system, not a blank page
Professional documents share DNA: a consistent grid, two fonts maximum, one accent color, generous white space. The fastest way to get that DNA is to start from a well-built template and restyle it. (Our Ebook & Lead Magnet Pack includes 15 complete multi-page systems exactly for this.)
Set up your brand kit first — colors and fonts — so every page you touch inherits the same look automatically.
Step 3: Design the content pages
Rules that keep amateur hands looking professional:
- One idea per page. When in doubt, add a page rather than shrink the text.
- Body text at 11-14pt; headings at least 2x body size.
- Align everything to the same margins — Canva’s rulers and guides are your friend.
- Use icons (Canva has thousands built in) instead of clip-art style images.
Step 4: Export correctly
For documents: Share → Download → PDF Standard (PDF Print only if people will physically print it). For template packs you’re selling as Canva links: use Share → Template link, and deliver the links in a PDF or text file.
Step 5: Package it like a product
Presentation is half the perceived value:
- Create a 3D mockup of your product for the sales page — a flat screenshot undersells it. (This is what our Mockup Kit is for.)
- Include a short README so buyers know exactly what they got and how to use it.
- Add a license page stating what buyers can and can’t do.

Your first product won’t be your best — that’s fine. A finished $19 product teaches you more than a perfect one stuck at 80%. When it’s ready, our guide on how to sell digital products covers the store and marketing side.
